Clinical Research Fellow (University of Oxford)
This is an exciting opportunity to join the team that has been working on the rapid clinical development of vaccines against COVID-19 and other important outbreak pathogens, including Marburg and Ebola. The team is running pioneering studies on experimental controlled human challenge studies for bacterial and viral infections and phase I-III studies of experimental vaccines to transform human health.
The successful candidate will play an important role working on vaccine and vaccine-related studies, including those against COVID-19 and other threats to human health, recently developed human models of typhoid and paratyphoid infection, and pneumococcal, RSV, and influenza challenge studies in a collaboration with the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM).
This is a post for a medical doctor and would be especially suitable for trainees in infectious or tropical diseases, medical microbiology/virology, immunology, gastroenterology, or acute internal medicine. However, it would also be suitable for trainees in any other specialty, including general practice or upon completion of core medical training. The post will include contributing to a clinical rota and an on-call rota, which includes some evening and weekend work.
This research is expected to lead to high-quality publications and includes opportunities for suitable candidates to study for a higher degree (MSc/MD/DPhil). If the candidate is interested in pursuing an academic research career, they will be given the opportunity and encouragement to seek independent research funding and to develop a laboratory, clinical, or translational research proposal.
The post is fixed-term for 12 months in the first instance, but it has the potential to be extended based on the availability of further funding. Furthermore, this role meets the criteria for a UK Skilled Worker visa.

The department has a generic job advertisement open for clinical research fellows but would particularly welcome applications from sexual health physicians in training to work on establishing its new multicentre gonococcal challenge programme.
